ABOUT AFOS

About the Asian Federation of Osteoporosis Societies (AFOS)

The Asian Federation of Osteoporosis Societies (AFOS) is a regional federation representing national osteoporosis societies across Asia. AFOS is dedicated to advancing education, research, and collaboration in all aspects of osteoporosis and related metabolic bone disorders, with the overarching goal of improving bone health and reducing the burden of osteoporosis and fragility fractures throughout the Asian region.

History and Establishment

AFOS was initiated through a teleconference held on 5 November 2007, during which representatives from several Asian countries discussed the establishment of a regional federation to strengthen cooperation in osteoporosis education and research within Asia. Following this initial initiative, AFOS was formally established on 18 May 2008, marking the foundation of a collaborative regional platform dedicated to osteoporosis in Asia.

The establishment of AFOS reflects a shared commitment among Asian osteoporosis societies to address region-specific challenges in bone health through coordinated academic and scientific efforts.
